Stop Smoking

New Scientist Magazine Reports that the most effective way to quit smoking is with hypnosis. A researcher carried out a statistical comparison of over 600 studies covering almost 72,000 people from Europe and America and found that Hypnosis came out on top, above self-help books, nicotine substitutes (such as gum), acupuncture and will power. It really is the best way to stop smoking.

A later study by ‘Which’ magazine also confirmed these findings.

Addiction or Habit?

Many smokers will often say the reason they find it so difficult to quit smoking is that they are addicted to nicotine. This is using the word addiction in such a loose way that it becomes meaningless. Some people will use it in the same way when referring to gambling, eating sweets or even biting their nails. There is no evidence, however, to suggest that nicotine promotes the same kind of chemical dependence of such things as heroin or alcohol.

The chairman of the British Medical Association Dr Sandy Macara said

‘I don’t believe that smokers are truly addicted to tobacco.

I think they have a habit…’

How can hypnosis help?

All of us represent the world in different ways. Some people are very good at creating internal images others have a strong internal voice.

Anyone with a bad habit like smoking will be creating negative representations both consciously and unconsciously.

Through hypnosis the negative representations can be brought under the clients control and help them have a deep understanding of how to become a non-smoker, not just for a short period of time but permanently.
