Hypnosis for Pain-free Childbirth in Lincoln

Hypnotherapist Rob Smith has help many women acheive pain free childbirth in Lincoln Lincolnshire

Rob has received clinical training in both Hypnosis for Childbirth and Pain Management, and has helped many women (and men) through childbirth, aiding them to get the most out of the experience.

What can hypnosis for childbirth do for you.

  1. Hypnosis can be used to significantly reduce pain during delivery.

  2. Hypnosis has been shown to reduce the length of the first stage of labour by approximately 2 hours.

  3. Because of the state of relaxation produced, the risk of tearing is reduced during the final stages of labour.

  4. Both mother and baby will be less physically and mentally stressed after the birth.

  5. The possibility of post-natal depression is greatly reduced due to a much calmer and less painful birth.

  6. Recovery time after the birth is faster.

  7. Endorphins are the body's natural painkillers, and when in a relaxed state the body will Baby2 automatically release these endorphins.

  8. If the mother is relaxed then the baby will be more relaxed, which can lead to feeding and sleeping better, plus less crying.

Pain Management

The pain reducing techniques of hypnosis are often used now in the medical and dental professions with continuing success. Although it may seem like a new thing, it is not. It is interesting to know that in the late 19th century, before the introduction of anaesthesia, hypnosis was used to control pain during labour and delivery. The only reason it became less popular with the medical profession was that it was easier and cheaper to medicate the mother rather than invest time on a number of occasions, spending up to an hour each session with hypnosis techniques.

The Sessions

  1. There is a free initial consultation which last about 30-45 minutes. We usually look to start the first session somewhere around the 30-32 week of pregnancy so the consultation needs to be before this time.

  2. In the first session the husband, partner or birth partner are actively encouraged to attend. A general relaxation session is given for both.

  3. In the second session the mother-to-be is taught self-hypnosis and how to manage discomfort. If the partner is there, they are taught how to help the mother-to-be into a wonderful relaxing state through the use of various anchoring techniques.Waterfa;;

  4. The third session enhances what was done in the second session and also deals with any issues that the mother-to-be may have, such as particular phobias or other concerns.

  5. The fourth session focuses on the birth itself, adopting a flexible approach for different eventualities. During the session, the mother-to-be is taught how to open her eyes during hypnosis and still remain deeply relaxed so she can see the birth.

  6. The fifth session occurs after the birth and is a follow-up session to make sure everything is okay and to help with any difficulties, or to help in the unlikely event of postnatal depression.
